Tosca is one of the most dramatic, thrilling operas ever written by Italian writer Giacomo Puccini. Tosca is set amidst stunning churches and pictorial palazzos in Rome during the Napoleonic era. Its heroine, Floria Tosca, a famous opera star and legendary beauty, finds her happy life shattered and is forced to resort to violent measures to rescue her lover who has been trapped in the web of the licentious Scarpia, the Chief of Police, who also desires her.
Three different interpretations by PETA (Philippines), Black Tent Theater (Korea), and The Practice Theater (Singapore).
PETA sets its interpretation during the Japanese occupation and Tosca becomes the battleground of Japanese Imperialism, patriotic love and selfish greeed. Three interpretations intersect at certain points and create a tapestry of interpolations on Puccini's Opera.
This play was first performed in Japan and will have a series of shows in the Philippines before embarking on
an Asian Tour.
