Ismail and Isabel are friends. They live in the small barangay of Dilangawen, a unique community in Mindanao where Muslims and Christian live together and, in fact even inter-marry. This seemingly ideal community, however becomes caught in the crossfire in 2000 when Muslim rebels entered the barangay and pursued eventually by Philippine army forces. Ismail and Isabel -- Muslim and Christian respectively, who, before the war reached their small village, were blind to their religious differences now face the painful reality of discrimination, intolerance, war, and violence. Through the play, their innocence is shattered. Their only cause for hope is to tell and re-tell the stories and folktales that their parents told them. Eventually, they become refugees and get separated in the bustling city.
Isabel becomes a maidservant and nanny of a wealthy Christian family, while Ismail, disillusioned and desperate, becomes involved in criminal activities in the city, including supporting a terrorist spate of kidnappings. In the final confrontation between two friends, Ismail and Isabel ask themselves if there are still enough stories to keep their hopes high that in the future, their unique town of Dilangawen will again exist
